DCYF: 17-year-old hospitalized due to likely maltreatment
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (November 9, 2020) –A 17-year-old female from Lincoln was admitted to Hasbro Children’s Hospital on October 23 in a near fatality which led to an investigation.
According to DCYF, the family had prior DCYF involvement, but they were not open to the Department at the time of the child’s admission to the hospital.
The Department has conducted an investigation and has determined that the child’s condition is likely to have been the result of maltreatment.
Pursuant to state law, DCYF notified the Office of the Child Advocate of the report.
Due to confidentiality laws, DCYF is prohibited from sharing additional information.
Rhode Islanders are required by law to report known or suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to DCYF within 24 hours of becoming aware of such abuse/neglect. Please call 1-800-RI-CHILD to report known or suspected cases of child abuse.
