Dartmouth Police arrest man on firearm, other charges
DARTMOUTH, MA – On Monday, August 27 at approximately 3:50 a.m., Dartmouth police officer Adam Rego was investigating an illegally parked vehicle on Rogers Street.
While attempting to identify the occupants inside of the vehicle, Officer Rego observed the male positioned in the driver’s seat, subsequently identified as Brian Ortiz, 21, of Nye Street, New Bedford; attempt to conceal a firearm under his legs.
After securing a .45 caliber Colt semi-automatic pistol, it was learned that Ortiz did not have a valid license to carry in Massachusetts.
As a result of the incident, Ortiz was placed under arrest and charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity firearm, trespassing with a motor vehicle, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and illegally attaching plates to a motor vehicle.
An investigation of the origin of the firearm is ongoing.
