Dartmouth officials announce sighting of black bear mother and cub

Published

on

Local officials have announced that two bears were seen recently.

According to Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust, a black bear mother and cub have been sighted at Paskamansett Woods – DNRT/Gidley Woods.

DNRT noted that black bear attacks are very uncommon, and they rarely become aggressive when encountered (although a mother will protect her cub).

If you do encounter a bear, talk loudly in a calm voice and back away slowly. Do not approach the bear. Keep your dog on leash and never allow them to chase or interact with bears. While hiking be observant of your surroundings to prevent any unwarranted interactions.
