Dartmouth officer injured in overnight crash
DARTMOUTH, MA – On Sunday, June 23, 2019 at approximately 1:54 a.m., a Dartmouth Police officer was injured when his cruiser was struck by an alleged intoxicated operator.
While investigating an earlier crash on Route 6 near Connecticut Avenue, the cruiser that Officer Manny DEMELO was sitting in was struck by a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, operated by David COSTA, 56, of New Bedford.
As a result of the crash, Officer DEMELO was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, where he was treated for minor injuries, and COSTA was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of liquor and negligent operation.
