Dartmouth man accidentally shoots himself Sunday
DARTMOUTH, MA – On Sunday, February 24th at approximately 1:05 p.m., Dartmouth Police responded to a residence after receiving a 9-1-1 call that a 48 year old Dartmouth man had accidentally shot himself in the abdomen while cleaning his handgun.
Upon arrival, officers located the male conscious and alert in the driveway of his residence, and confirmed that he was indeed suffering from a single gunshot wound to the upper abdomen.
Further investigation into the matter, determined that the male had accidentally shot himself while cleaning his 9 mm handgun.
As a result of his injury, the male was transported by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital, where his current condition is unknown.
According to Chief Brian P. Levesque, “This incident should serve as a very important reminder to everyone of both the responsibility and potential dangers associated with owning and maintaining a firearm. We are happy that this story didn’t have a more tragic ending, and wish this gentleman a speedy and successful recovery.”
