Dartmouth Fire Department issues update on fire at former Hawthorne Country Club
A local property that was the location of banquets and weddings for several decades went up in flames Sunday afternoon.
At approximately 1:30 p.m. a call came in for flames showing at the former Hawthorne Country Club.
According to Dartmouth Fire District 2 Chief Erick Turcotte the flames were extinguished in about 2 hours.
“We kept it to a working fire assignment with the assistance of Dartmouth District 1 and Dartmouth District 3. There were no injuries, and the building is a complete loss.”
Turcotte stated that the building has been abandoned for about 10 years.
According to Sandy Quadros Bowles of Dartmouth Week, the former country club at 970 Tucker Road was recently placed under agreement with Toll Brothers for $3 million. Plans for the property had not been finalized, but senior housing is a possibility.
While crews were battling the blaze, southbound traffic on Tucker Road was detoured up Allen Street.
The fire is still currently under investigation by the fire department and the Massachusetts fire Marshall office.
