Dartmouth fire causes extensive damage to home, results in death of puppy; fundraiser organized
A pet has died and a home is destroyed after a Friday afternoon fire in Dartmouth.
Crews responded at approximately 2:30 p.m. to a blaze at 574 Hixville Road that turned into a two-alarm fire.
Multiple out of town departments also responded to the scene including Westport and Freetown.
According to a GoFundMe fundraiser, in a matter of moments, 4 people lost their “home and all of their belongings were completely destroyed. They escaped with their lives, but they now have nothing more than the clothes they were wearing.”
“Nothing from the home was salvageable. Everyday necessities, personal items, memories, and important documents are all gone. Most heartbreakingly, my goddaughter—who is in her final semester of nursing school and set to graduate this May—lost her laptop, school supplies, and everything she needs to complete her education.
“In addition to losing their home, my goddaughter also lost her beloved 6-month-old puppy in the fire. The emotional toll of this loss has been overwhelming, adding deep grief to an already unimaginable tragedy.”
A friend of the family stated that one of the victim’s is a firefighter.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
