DA Quinn: Fall River man sentenced for assault against estranged wife after multiple prior convictions against same victim
Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn, III has announced that a 32-year-old Fall River man was convicted after a jury trial in the Fall River Superior Court and was sentenced by the Honorable Thomas McGuire.
Shawn Rego will serve 2.5 years to the House of Correction for a domestic assault in October 2024. This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Kalene Kobza.
On or about October 17, 2024, Rego was released from the Dartmouth House of Corrections after serving an 18-month sentence for assaulting his wife. Upon his release from incarceration, the defendant moved back in with his mother. Rego’s now estranged wife and his children lived in the apartment below the defendant’s mother. Rego immediately began contacting the victim, leading the victim to seek and obtain a temporary restraining order on October 21, 2024. On that same date, the defendant, after interacting with his children, followed the victim into her apartment in an angered state due to her seeking a restraining order and assaulted the victim in her apartment. The victim immediately contacted her sister after the assault, who called the Fall River Police. Rego has two prior convictions for Assault and Battery on a Family or Household Member against this victim.
“The defendant has a history of assaulting the victim and was on parole at the time he committed this offense. He simply doesn’t get it,” District Attorney Tom Quinn said.
