DA: 41-year-old Taunton man shoots self after domestic incident, standoff

A 41-year-old Taunton man who barricaded himself inside his bedroom after police were called to his apartment for a domestic disturbance Tuesday afternoon died as a result of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to Gregg Miliote of the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, at 2:15 p.m. yesterday, Taunton Police received a 911 call from a woman who stated that her daughter was currently a victim of an ongoing domestic incident involving her husband, Peter Rose, at their 29 Grant Street apartment. Responding officers made contact with the wife and quickly learned her husband had barricaded himself in his bedroom with a firearm. Officers immediately removed the woman and her two young children from the apartment.

Taunton Police and members of the SEMLEC Swat set up a secure perimeter outside the apartment and made numerous unsuccessful attempts to make contact with Rose. At around 8:00 p.m., through the usage of a robotic device, entry was made to the apartment and the bedroom, where Mr. Rose was found unresponsive suffering from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A paramedic on scene declared him deceased at 8:17 p.m.

A single .40 caliber spent casing was located near the body and a .40 caliber Glock firearm was found directly next to him. No foul play is suspected.
