Crews search for man who jumped off of Rhode Island bridge
It has been confirmed that earlier this week a person jumped off of a local bridge.
According to scanner transmissions, a call came in at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Monday for a possible bridge jumper at the center span of the Pell/Newport Bridge.
Police, fire, and the Marine Task Force were among the personnel that responded to the scene.
It was later confirmed that a male had jumped from the bridge.
As of 10:15 p.m. Monday night, crews found what was believed to be a shoe, but had not found a body.
No information was released by officials.
It was recently confirmed that a suicide barrier study for the bridge received state funding as community groups plead for the barriers to be placed.
