Crews respond to crash over stream off of Route 79
The Lakeville Fire Department responded to Route 79 in the area of Galfre Road for a motor vehicle crash at approximately 8:30 a.m. this morning.
According to LFD, the crash occurred when a pickup truck left the roadway and came to rest over a stream connected to a cranberry bog pond.
Firefighters conducted an extrication operation and evaluated the sole occupant of the vehicle for injuries. Firefighters used a ladder to create a bridge over the stream, and police and fire personnel assisted the driver across the ladder, avoiding the fast moving water below.
The driver was evaluated by firefighters and ultimately refused transport to the hospital.
At the time of the crash, all on duty staff were committed to a medical emergency elsewhere in town. Fire Chief O’Brien responded in Ambulance 3 alone and a staffing recall was transmitted to bring in additional personnel.
Engine 1 and Squad 3 subsequently arrived on scene to support the operation.
