Crews respond after car crashes into water near Route 24 in Portsmouth; pet dog drowns
A pet has died after a vehicle crashed into a local body of water.
A spokesperson for the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Managemen told Fall River Reporter that this afternoon, RI Environmental Police from DEM’s Division of Law Enforcement responded to a report of a vehicle unintentionally driven into the water at Gull Cove in Portsmouth.
The driver was able to get out of the vehicle and was transported to the hospital for minor hypothermia caused by the cold water but had no injuries.
Unfortunately, the driver was unable remove their dog from the vehicle, which drowned when the vehicle submerged.
The RI State Police Dive Team and first responders removed the vehicle from the water.
