Crews rescue trapped driver after snowy crash, transport to New Bedford hospital
Local crews responded to a collision Thursday morning that trapped a driver as snow accumulated on area roads.
According to Berkley Fire and Rescue, at 11:53 a.m., crews responded to a motor vehicle crash in the area of 99 Bryant Street involving a vehicle vs. utility pole with the operator trapped inside the vehicle due to the extent of damage and the vehicle resting against the pole.
Fire personnel performed a technical extrication with assistance from Flint’s Towing, who helped winch the vehicle away from the utility pole, allowing crews to safely use extrication tools and free the operator.
The operator was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital for evaluation of injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
Berkley Police had announced that the road had been shut down between Algerine Street and Seymour Street due to a broken utility pole.
The crash is under investigation.
