Could Fall River lose more entertainment? Popular spot could be moving out of the city, but you can help

A popular Fall River spot is hoping you can help them stay in business.

Business owner Kevin O’Hara took to social media late last year to say that despite the lease not being renewed at his location at 288 Plymouth Avenue, he does not want to see his business, Lazer Gate, die.

“So, Lazer Gate’s building is being sold to become self-storage units. Essentially, we have two options: find a new place and get started again or surrender and give up. I’m reminded of a line from Jericho (dating myself with this TV show reference) NUTS -Not Understand Term Surrender. So, if anyone has 15-20,000 square feet of space available……..Lazer Gate has been here for 22 years, I’ve been part of it since leaving AT&T in 2008. I’m not ready to be done.”

According to an October Fall River Zoning Board of Appeals meeting, Bravo Development LLC will be turning the Borden Mill into an indoor storage facility after being granted a waiving of zoning requirements in a medical district pending a review of the property when work is completed.

Some of the businesses residing in the mill besides Lazer Gate is Straight Shooters, Inside The Park Batting Cages, Trader Jan’s, Coastal Career Academy, and Carter’s Clothing and Footwear.

According to Attorney Thomas Killoran, who represented Bravo Development at the meeting, the plan is for a complete rehab of the building in the interior in addition to aesthetic improvements to the exterior and the parking lot. The property will have 24-hour surveillance and two new loading ramps.

The 190,000-square-foot facility, which had a 66% occupancy as of late last year, will be part of a self-storage chain and will be staffed from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

O’Hara has been looking at some promising locations in New Bedford and Fairhaven for his business. He is open to staying in Fall River, but locations here that would suit the business’ needs have been short to come by.

Lazer Gates final day of business was expected to be March 19th, however, O’Hara told Fall River Reporter that he has been given an extension to March 26th.

As far as the status of other businesses currently inside of the mill, Inside the Park Batting Cages has a Baseball Clinic listed for April 19, 20, 21, 2022. We contacted Straight Shooters and our request went unanswered.

If you have any locations for Lazer Gate, you can contact O’Hara’s real estate agent, Donna Whritenour, of Remax, at (774) 930-2145.
