Community rallies around family of Rhode Island officer who died from sudden an unexpected illness
A Rhode Island police officer has died after a sudden illness.
Several Rhode Island police and fire departments announced the untimely passing of Sergeant Michael Lawing of the Richmond Police Department.
He also served as a member of the Richmond – Carolina Fire District and previously had held the rank of Lieutenant.
According to a GoFundMe fundraiser, Lawing came down with a very severe case of Pancreatitis and other health issues/complications and passed away on Sunday.
The fundraiser has raised almost $24,000 as of this writing in support of the Lawing family.
Services have yet to be announced.
