Community policing efforts results in recognition for Fall River Interim Police Chief Furtado
When Kelly Furtado spoke after being announced Interim Fall River Police Chief in October, community policing and involvement was stressed. She is now being recognized for that effort.
Senator Michael Rodrigues visited the Fall River Police Department this week to present Chief Furtado with an official citation concerning enhancing community policing efforts throughout the City of Fall River.
With the honor, Chief Furtado expressed her gratitude but redirected the recognition to the members of the department for working to carry her vision.
Among the changes at the department are the Community Action and Suppression Team (CAST) and the Neighborhood Engagement and Enforcement Team which has resulted in at least a handful of major drug arrests since their inception.
In October, FRPD held its first Halloween trick or treat event at police headquarters on Pleasant Street.
In November, Fall River Reporter was told that “the agency is undergoing a comprehensive restructuring and revitalization process, which will involve the disbanding of some units and the creation of new ones. To enhance our effectiveness in serving the community, we are conducting a thorough analysis of past resources and specialized assignments. This analysis includes evaluating financial constraints, optimizing manpower allocation, and implementing strategies to prevent employee burnout. These efforts aim to ensure that our agency is better equipped to meet the needs of our citizens efficiently and sustainably.”
The Department states that they continue to work to build trust and safety within the community.
