Some Fall River homeless couldn’t find warmth so community members brought the warmth to them.

After a soup kitchen was organized Tuesday on the Alfred Lima Quequechan Rail Trail to warm up the homeless, Father Rob Nemkovich and his wife Kathy of Blessed Trinity PNCC, Christopher Silva of Christopher’s, Chef Sandy Greenwood and her husband George, and Ryan Fitzgerald of Fitzgerald Counseling Group visited more homeless encampments in frigid temperatures on Wednesday.

The group gave out many new winter coats, body-hand-feet-toe warmers, gloves, scarfs, hats, long underwear, turkey-bacon-cheese & BBQ chip sandwiches, hot pizza, and water all donated by themselves and community members.

While the food and warmth were much appreciated, Father Rob noted that it was done with care, love, and hope with plans to continue helping those living in the encampments.

“The gratitude on the faces of those helped was humbling and thanks to all who donated today after Christopher’s post. Looking forward to next Wednesday with some more hot food and supplies on the Rail Trail. A follow up from the efforts yesterday!”

The effort is on the heels of the ownership of Christopher’s, DCM, and Fall River officials combining to get trash receptacles at the Rail Trail so those living in the encampments can keep the area cleaner.
