A fire this week in Fall River has left residents displaced and their belongings destroyed as community members help them pick up the pieces.

At approximately 4:45 p.m. on Monday, a call came in to dispatch for flames showing at 116 Danforth Street.

Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire from two floors in the 2 1/2 floor residence.

According to scanner transmissions, all occupants were out of the building.

Firefighters began an interior attack but had to switch to an exterior/defensive attack before extinguishing the blaze.

While there were no injuries, according to those who know the residents, everything was lost in the multi-level home that was occupied by members of the same family.

A GoFundMe fundraiser states that the “family always helped anyone out when they could, weather it was with giving clothes, food, drinks, anything you can think of and now they have lost everything they have ever worked so extremely hard for. This family is going through extreme pain and grief, and this moment will forever be haunted by this memory.”

In addition to the GoFundMe, Program Manager for the Outreach Program at Greater Fall River ReCreation, Victoria Maniatis, has issued a statement to help.

“Unfortunately, this letter brings sad news. On March 10th, one of the Outreach Youth in our program experienced a tragedy. His home caught fire and he and his family have lost all of their personal possessions. Subsequently, we are attempting to assist the family in any way that we can.

“The Outreach Program takes great pride in assisting and mentoring our youth and young adults through the everyday obstacles and challenges they face. Our staff also make it a priority to encourage our youth to understand that for us, this is not just a job. Through the consistent work, rapport, dedication, trust and relationship building, our participants have developed a sense of belonging and are made to feel like they are an important member of our family.

“We are reaching out to everyone to ask for your help as well. Any monetary donation would significantly help this family to survive this ordeal and attempt to move forward with their lives in this time of great loss.
