Community comes together to help stray Fall River dog get needed surgery

To see Fall River area residents come together to help those in need is not a surprise as it happens often. This incident is no exception.
Odette came to Forever Paws as a stray. A day or so into her stray hold, they noticed that she was favoring her hind leg. While waiting for an owner to call or come for her, they scheduled her to be seen at the vet who confirmed a fracture through the growth plate.
Forever Paws expected someone to claim this sweet, happy, loving pup. Still not a single call.
So, they kept working, trying to come up with a plan to take care of Odette.
After reaching out to multiple veterinarians for assistance, the consensus is that the best path forward for Odette will be a complete leg amputation. Odette is scheduled for her surgery next week and the procedure was quoted at $4406.55.

Forever Paws sent out a social media post requesting help with the unexpected expense.
“We know times are tough. We know money is tight. We hate to ask for help when we know that so many people are struggling but a puppy like Odette deserves a chance for a happy, long, pain-free life. She deserves HER chance at happiness. We need you to help us fight for that for her. Odette needs you. We need you. No amount is too small. If you cannot donate, we understand 100% but PLEASE share this pup and her story. It will mean EVERYTHING to her.”
Needless to say, community members stepped up to the plate. In less than 4 hours, over $5,000 had been donated. More than enough for Odette’s surgery.
As Fall River Reporter has mentioned in previous stories, Fall River residents can be rough around the edges and aren’t always the wealthiest folks, but when someone is legitimately in need, they show up in force, even if it means they will have a little less.
