College student thrown several feet after being hit in crosswalk by vehicle

A college student was struck by a motor vehicle this morning while crossing Rte. 132 in front of the Cape Cod Community College West Barnstable campus.

At approx. 8:15 a.m., Barnstable Police received reports of a pedestrian accident at the crosswalk in front of Cape Cod Community College. Callers stated the pedestrian was conscious and alert after being struck by a car. Investigation revealed an 18-year-old Carver woman was allegedly crossing Rte. 132 from the west side of the road to the east side of the road on her way to class. While in the crosswalk, she was struck by a motor vehicle heading south on Rte. 132 towards Hyannis. The vehicle was a 2012 Toyota Corolla driven by 20-year-old Milenna Rodrigues of Centerville. According to the investigation, the Carver woman was thrown several feet and sustained injuries to the left side of her body. She was transported to South Shore Hospital by the West Barnstable Fire Department Rescue. Rodrigues’ vehicle had visible damage to the front and windshield area. She was transported by Barnstable Fire Department to Cape Cod Hospital for an unknown medical problem.

Rodrigues will be facing charges of Operating Without a License, Operating to Endanger, Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle, and a Crosswalk Violation.

The Barnstable Police Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and the accident remains under investigation with additional charges possible.
