Closing arguments scheduled in trial concerning murders of 14 and 29-year-olds in Fall River

The trial concerning a Fall River double murder will have closing arguments Thursday, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.

22-year-old Jeremy Holmes is charged with two counts of Murder along with Assault and Battery with a Firearm and Carrying a Firearm without a License.

The trial began on November 5th.

Fall River Police received 911 calls at just before 4:30 p.m. on May 17, 2021, for a report of shots fired in the vicinity of Griffin Park.

When first responders arrived on scene, they located two victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The two victims, Jovaughn Antonio Mills, 29, of Fall River and Miguel Sanjurjo, 14, of Fall River, were rushed to Saint Anne’s Hospital and Charlton Memorial Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The third shooting victim, a 19-year-old man from Fall River, was transported to Saint Anne’s Hospital via a private vehicle. The victim was then transported to Rhode Island Hospital for further treatment and has since recovered.

According to prosecutors, the weapon found at the scene of the shooting where 13 shots were fired was owned by Holmes.

Video surveillance was recovered concerning the shooting.

Holmes’ attorney previously stated that his client had no criminal record and that the gun in question is not Holmes’ property.

Police chief at the time, Jeffrey Cardoza, stated that the shooting occurred on the sidewalk near the black fencing of Griffin Park.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Dennis Collins and Patrick Driscoll.  Holmes is represented by Attorneys Frank Camera and Kathryn Blythe.
