City of Fall River’s residential street sweeper program set to begin for 2024, violators subject to fines
(FALL RIVER, MA- March 28, 2024)- Starting on April 1st, the City of Fall River’s Department of Community Maintenance will resume its residential street sweeper program.
The goal of the program is to provide curb-to-curb access for City Street sweepers in residential areas through the enforcement of regularly scheduled parking restrictions. Parking is prohibited on one side of a selected street from 8:00am to 2:00pm on a designated day of the month. The following day, parking is prohibited on the opposite side of the same street. The program operates on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from April 1st until November 1st.Please adhere to the parking signage at the location listed on the maps provided below. Street sweeping, and enforcement of the parking restrictions, will not take place on holidays. Those in violation of the scheduled parking rules will be subject to fines.
In the fall of 2022, the City rolled out Phase 1 of the program, covering three neighborhoods during the first full week of the month. In the spring of 2023, the city moved to Phase 2 of the program, covering nine additional neighborhoods over the second, third, and fourth full weeks of the month. All twelve sectors are to take part in the program for the duration of the 2024 season (April 1st-November 1st).
Residents can determine whether they live in one of the twelve sectors by referring to the maps posted on the City of Fall River’s website. They may also visit or contact the Traffic and Parking Office (508-324-2123) or Department of Community Maintenance (508-324-2584) in the Government Center.
The City states that the importance of street sweeping is to prevent City storm drains from clogging with debris and causing flooding during rain event, as well as to ensure protection of the environment and to improve the aesthetic quality of Fall River neighborhoods. The City of Fall River thanks residents in advance for their cooperation.
