FALL RIVER, MA- Mayor Paul Coogan will join the Department of Veterans Services and community members in a remembrance ceremony honoring Cpl. David Miller, a Fall River native and member of the United States Army Air Forces who served during World War II.
Cpl. Miller was a prisoner of war and was among those who endured the Bataan Death March. Here in Fall River, his service and sacrifice are memorialized at what many know as Miller Green, located at the corner of South Main Street and Shove Street, where a monument stands in his honor.
For many years, a remembrance ceremony organized by Richard Urban was held locally to honor Cpl. Miller. After the passing of the individual who had faithfully carried that tradition forward, the ceremony faded from public view. This year, the City of Fall River Department of Veterans Services is working to respectfully revitalize this remembrance and ensure that Cpl. Miller’s name, story, and sacrifice are not forgotten.
The ceremony will take place on Friday September 25th, at 1:00 p.m. at the Miller Green, corner of South Main Street and Shove Street.
