City of Fall River repurposes former COVID trailer into mobile public safety command center
The City of Fall River announced on Monday that they have officially repurposed its former COVID response trailer into a new Mobile Public Safety Command Center designed to enhance coordination, communication, and operational effectiveness during city events and large-scale incidents.
The initiative is a collaboration between the Fall River City Council, the Council Committee on Public Safety and Mayor Paul Coogan to strengthen public safety infrastructure and emergency preparedness across the community.
With the City increasing the number of public events and gatherings throughout the summer season, the Mobile Public Safety Command Center will serve as a centralized hub for interagency coordination and communication. The unit is equipped to support police, fire, EMS, emergency management, and other public safety partners working together during major events, emergencies, and critical incidents.
City officials feel the repurposed trailer will significantly improve interoperability among agencies, allowing for more efficient information sharing, coordinated response efforts, and enhanced situational awareness in the field.
“This investment strengthens our ability to respond quickly and effectively to ensure the safety of residents, visitors, and event attendees throughout the city.” Mayor Paul E. Coogan
“By repurposing existing resources, the city continues to find innovative and cost-effective ways to improve public safety operations.” EMS Director Beth Faunce
“This Mobile Public Safety Command Center gives our police, fire, EMS, and emergency management teams the ability to operate together more effectively during large events and critical incidents. It enhances communication, coordination, and real-time decision making in the field. It provides the public with a visible and reliable point of contact when assistance or information is needed from public safety.” Deputy Chief J.T. Hoar
State Rep. Alan Silvia stated, “proud to join community leaders, first responders and residents for the ribbon cutting of our new Public Safety Command Center here in Fall River. This Command Center will strengthen coordination, improve response times and help keep our community safe. You’ll see this command center at all the waterfront festivities this summer, stop by and check it out! A great investment in public safety and the people who serve us every day.”
