With multiple inches of snow forecast, the City of Fall River instituted a parking ban over the weekend which left some residents annoyed that everyone wasn’t following it.

According to the National Weather Service, Fall River and surrounding communities received between 2 to 5 inches of snow from Sunday into early Monday morning.

Fall River Reporter asked the Traffic Department if any tows or tickets were issued due to the parking ban.

“Due to the forecast indicating potential slight accumulation in our area, this parking ban was implemented out of an abundance of caution, in case the storm’s path shifted. Please note that no parking tickets were issued during this specific storm.”

The City of Fall River advises all residents to adhere to the following guidelines during any parking ban:

  • Do not park within 20 feet of a corner or within 10 feet of a fire hydrant.
  • Parking is permitted on the north side of all streets running east and west, and on the west side of streets running north and south. In most cases, this means parking is not allowed on the side with fire hydrants.
  • Parking is allowed, unless otherwise posted, on both sides of any street divided by a traffic median. Parking against the median is prohibited.

If you are fined for violation of the parking ban, it will cost you $65.00.

Residents were likely given a pass because Fall River’s snow total was in the area of 2 inches. Next time drivers may not be so lucky.
