City of Fall River looking for Purple Heart recipients, hosting Kayaking on the Quequechan in separate events

The City of Fall River is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying Purple Heart recipients—both living and deceased—who have resided in the Fall River area. This outreach effort is part of a citywide initiative to honor the brave men and women who were wounded or killed in combat while serving in the United States Armed Forces. 

This call for information comes as the city prepares for its official designation as a Purple Heart City on August 7, 2025, during a public ceremony at Bicentennial Park.

Family members, friends, and community members who know of a Purple Heart recipient are encouraged to share the following information: 

Full Name of the Recipient 

Branch of Service and Conflict (e.g., WWII, Vietnam, Iraq) 

Date and Place of Birth 

Date of Passing (if applicable) 

Contact Information of the person submitting the information

Also, on June 28th, the City of Fall River, in collaboration with Mass Audubon Naturalists will be hosting Kayaking on the Quequechan from 9:00am-12:00pm at the Quequechan River Rail Trail. Guided tours will be offered with limited space.
● Session 1: 9:00am
● Session 2: 11:00am
Equipment will be provided along with beginner-friendly instructions for those with no/limited experience. Be sure to reserve your spots online! This event is offered for free thanks to the sponsorship of Inframark Water and Infrastructure Services. Join in on the fun with this opportunity to learn about our native plants and animals that inhabit the Quequechan River!

LOCATION: MEET AT BRITLAND PARK, 17TH ST. ENTRANCE OFF OF PLEASANT ST. 

Each tour features a 75-minute, beginnerfriendly paddle, suitable for all skill levels. 

Please note that this program is for participants aged 18 and older, and limited to 10 participants each session.
