(FALL RIVER, MA- December 22nd, 2022)- Mayor Paul E. Coogan’s office, in conjunction with the Department of Community Maintenance, has issued a number of reminders related to trash collection over the holiday season.

Holiday Collection Schedule
Residents are reminded that the weeks following Christmas Day and New Year’s Day (starting on December 26th and January 2nd), will follow a delayed trash collection schedule. All households should plan on their trash pick-up occurring one day after the usual collection day.

Trash Amnesty Week
The City of Fall River has also announced this year’s annual Christmas amnesty trash collection week. Due to the upcoming holiday, the City recognizes that residents may generate excess trash needed to be put curbside for collection. For this reason, residents may place excess bags outside of the carts during the week following Christmas. With the delayed collection, the dates of amnesty week are December 27th through December 31st. As a reminder, the amnesty week does not apply to bulky items, such as furniture.

Households with excess trash are also encouraged to take advantage of the department’s overflow dumpster at its DPW Complex, located at 10 Lewiston St, if they are able to. Drop off of overflow trash is free and provided year-round, however, residents are required to provide proof of city residence in order to take advantage of this service.

Residents are reminded that wrapping paper is not recyclable and should be placed in/alongside trash carts.

Tree Collection
Tree collection has been scheduled for the weeks of January 3rd-7th and January 9th-13th. Trees must be placed beside trash carts and must be free of all coverings and decorations, such as lights, ornaments or garland. Residents can also dispose of their trees free of charge by bringing them to the DPW yard, located at 10 Lewiston St, during normal hours of operation.
