City of Fall River announces Christmas tree disposal information, additional bags for holiday trash
(FALL RIVER, MA – December 19, 2025) -The Office of Mayor Paul Coogan, in coordination with the Department of Community Maintenance, would like to notify residents about Christmas tree disposal information for the upcoming holiday season.
Christmas tree collection will occur during the weeks of December 29th, 2025, and January 5th, 2026, following the regular trash pickup schedule.
Additionally, due to the holidays, the City understands that residents may have extra household waste requiring curbside collection. To accommodate this, residents will be permitted to place up to 2 additional bags outside of their carts during the week after Christmas, from December 29, 2025, through January 2, 2026, on their regularly scheduled pickup days.
The City also issued a statement on recycling.
“As the holiday season concludes, residents are encouraged to prioritize recycling to help minimize waste. While holiday celebrations bring joy and community, they also result in a substantial rise in waste from packaging, food containers, decorations, and shipping materials. Research indicates that household waste increases by nearly 25 percent during the holidays. Residents are reminded to flatten cardboard boxes, recycle clean paper products free of food contamination, review local recycling guidelines for acceptable materials, and be reminded that wrapping paper is non-recyclable. Items such as holiday lights, electronic devices, and batteries should not be placed in curbside recycling bins and must instead be brought to 10 Lewiston Street, Fall River for proper disposal.”
