Child’s body found after 4-year-old Massachusetts boy went missing in river

A child’s body has been located in a river where a missing 4-year-old Massachusetts boy was last seen, according to Boston 25 News.

At approximately 5:45 p.m. on April 19th, the Lowell Police and Fire Departments were notified by 911 call that a 4-year-old boy was in the water by the Western Canal in the area of 300 Arcand Drive and the Merrimack River.

Preliminary indications are that the boy was quickly pulled by the current into the Merrimack River.

Azriel López was last seen wearing a magenta-colored shirt, black pants and white and blue sneakers.

According to the report, the body was found in the Merrimack River in Tewksbury.

A search for the boy involved the Lowell Police Drone Unit, Lowell Fire Department boats, the Lowell Fire Department Dive Team, the Massachusetts State Police Airwing, Dive Team, UMass Lowell Police, Environmental Police, family members and regular members of the public who just wanted to help.

Firefighters in Dracut, Methuen and Lawrence also searched the river downstream. 

An investigation into how the boy ended up in the water remains ongoing.
