Child dies from injuries sustained at Massachusetts elementary school playground
Tragedy has struck as a child has died from injuries sustained in an incident at a Massachusetts playground.
According to Melrose Public Schools Superintendent Cari Berman and Mayor Jennifer Grigoraitis, a student who was seriously injured yesterday afternoon during the incident on the Winthrop School playground where a tree fell has died. Two other individuals, one student and one adult, who were injured yesterday, have been discharged from area hospitals.
Counseling staff and additional administrators are on site at the Winthrop School to support students and staff as they navigate this challenging time.
The statement continued as follows:
“This is a very sad day at Winthrop School and for our entire Melrose Community. Our deepest condolences go out to the family, and we ask that you please respect their privacy at this time.
“We also want to thank the first responders, school personnel, parents and community members who responded on scene yesterday and continue to provide support.
“Take care of yourselves and each other.”
The identity of the child has not yet been released.
