Charlton Memorial Hospital ranked one of Massachusetts’ best hospitals

Published

on

According to U.S. News and World Report, Charlton Memorial Hospital received high ranks for best hospitals in the state.

Charlton achieved the highest rating possible in 3 procedures or conditions. COPD, colon cancer surgery, and heart failure procedures received a “high performing” ranking. Charlton also came in at #9 in the state and #2 in the Providence area.

To help patients decide where to receive care, U.S. News generates hospital rankings by evaluating data on nearly 5,000 hospitals in 16 adult specialties, 9 adult procedures and conditions and 10 pediatric specialties. To be nationally ranked in a specialty, a hospital must excel in caring for the sickest, most medically complex patients. The ratings in procedures and conditions, by contrast, focus on typical Medicare patients. Hospitals that do well in multiple areas of adult care may be ranked in their state and metropolitan area.

Massachusetts General Hospital came in 4th in the nation while Brigham and Women’s Hospital placed 20th. Miriam Hospital placed first in the Providence area.

I am now 77 and worked in the OR at Charlton Memorial Hospital for many years with the best surgeons at that time. Proud of being a part of the journey. Joan Fournier at the time.
