Charges filed in head-on crash that killed Massachusetts woman, fundraiser for Karen Read
Charges have been filed concerning a fatal Massachusetts highway motor vehicle crash that claimed the life of a beloved community member.
According to police, at just after 2:45 a.m., on February 20th, the Southborough Police and Fire Departments responded to Turnpike Road (Route 9 East) after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a serious motor vehicle crash.
First responders arrived to find a two–vehicle crash.
One of the drivers, 37-year-old Crystal Johnson Clementi from Leominster, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other driver, a 23-year-old woman from Bolton, was transported by Southborough Fire to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Preliminary evidence gathered from the scene of the crash was consistent with a head-on collision.
According to MetroWest Daily News, Abigail C. Throckmorton was charged in Westborough District Court on Thursday with Motor Vehicle Homicide by Negligence and Driving to Endanger. Throckmorton was also cited for Driving the Wrong Way, Speeding, and other infractions. Her arraignment is scheduled for April 21st.
A GoFundMe fundraiser created shortly after the crash stated that Clementi left behind a husband and son.
“Crystal was such a loving soul and would do anything for anyone, without hesitation. Crystal was one of the most amazing humans to ever walk the earth. She was strong, bold in her beliefs, she stood for what was right, fought for the people she loved, and loved deeply. Our family will forever be grateful that we were able to have 37 beautiful years loving, and knowing her. We are devastated and will miss her so deeply.”
Clementi had beaten cancer and was known in the area for helping raise legal defense funds for Karen Read and Aidan Kearney.
