Chairman of the Swansea Planning Board gives update on opening of Aldi, PetSmart, Burlington, Five Below; announces 2 new restaurants also coming

An update has been released concerning a major redevelopment project coming to Swansea.

Gator Investments announced late last year through a real estate listing that coming to Swansea Mall Center at 58-66 Swansea Mall Drive is Aldi Supermarket, Five Below, PetSmart, and Burlington.

The listing was also looking to fill 2 more parcels on the property which is located across the former Swansea Mall.

Chairman of the Swansea Planning Board Jonathan Carreiro gave an update on the projects Monday.

“I wanted to take a moment to share an exciting project that recently came before the Planning Board.

“Many of you may have heard rumors about Aldi, PetSmart, Burlington, and Five Below potentially coming to the former Toys “R” Us Plaza. I can confirm that those plans are real. Beginning this year, the 9-acre property will undergo a major redevelopment.

“The project includes installing a new sewer connection and reconstructing the entire parking lot to address a significant stormwater issue on the site. This infrastructure work will make up the first phase of the project.

“The redevelopment is planned to take place over three phases. Current plans call for Aldi, PetSmart, and Five Below to be operational by the first quarter of 2027.

“What you may not have heard yet is that the development also includes plans for two restaurants—one with approximately 110 seats and another with about 60 seats. These restaurants are not part of the initial phases of the project and are planned for a later stage of the development.

“In my five years serving on the Planning Board, this is one of the most impactful projects we’ve seen come before us, and I was excited to share this update with the community.”

Burlington is located in Fall River, Dartmouth, and Seekonk and offers a wide selection of brand-name clothing, home decor, and more at discount prices.
