Car crash, fire on I-95 leads to fatality, injuries

Colonel Ann C. Assumpico, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Director of the Department of Public Safety, states that one person died and another was injured after a car crashed, rolled over and caught fire on Interstate 95 in Richmond at approximately 8:40 p.m. Friday.

The driver, identified as Igor Nadtochij, age 49, of 89 Alpine Place, Franklin, MA, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in his car, identified as Kimora Hodge, age 35, also of 89 Alpine Place, Franklin, MA, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where she was admitted with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash occurred when the driver lost control of his car while travelling south on Interstate 95 approximately two miles north of Exit 3. The vehicle went off the road, re-entered the roadway and struck another car, then rolled over and caught fire.

Both the driver and passenger were ejected from the vehicle. Mr. Nadtochij was pronounced dead at the scene. Ms. Hodge was transported to the hospital.

The driver of the other car, identified as Frederick Steindler, age 40, of New York, NY, was not injured.

The southbound lanes of the highway were closed for about a half-hour after the crash, before one lane was reopened for travel. All lanes were open by 11 p.m., after the crash site was cleared.

The crash remains under investigation by Troopers from the Rhode Island State Police Hope Valley Barracks, the Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Forensic Services Unit.
