Cape Cod standoff ends after man assaults three officers, threatens to shoot responders
A man is in custody after a tense situation on Cape Cod Monday.
According to police, at approximately 11:15 a.m., Bourne Police Officers were dispatched to an apartment on High Meadow Circle where a 42-year-old male was reported to be intoxicated and threatening to harm himself. The male was reported to be in possession of a knife. Upon officers arriving and making contact with the man, he made threats to shoot the responding officers with a firearm and then barricaded himself inside the residence.
Over the next two hours, Bourne Police Department negotiators, Crisis Intervention Officers, and clinicians from Bay Cove worked to communicate with the man. During this time the male was erratic in his actions and statements. Officers were eventually able to gain control of the subject and transfer him to an area hospital for an evaluation. During the interaction, the man assaulted two officers while at his residence and a third officer while being transported to the hospital. Charges will be forthcoming for three charges of A&B on a Police Officer. There were no firearms located at the residence.
Due to the volatile nature of the situation and the potential that a firearm was involved, a localized stay in place request was issued to the residents of High Meadow Circle for the duration of the incident.
The name of the suspect was not released.
