Cape Cod couple looking to raise awareness and honor their son who just died at 23 months old
A Cape Cod couple is turning tragedy into awareness.
According to family and a GoFundMe fundraiser, Autum and Caleb Cook of Mashpee tragically lost their 23-month-old son Lucian.
Lucian, born on August 31, 2023, was a bright and joyful little boy who brought immeasurable happiness to everyone he met by all accounts.
On Saturday, Lucian passed away after a sudden and tragic choking accident, according to those who knew him.
The fundraiser described the Cook’s plan to honor their son and also bring awareness so other parents may not have to endure their pain.
“In the wake of this devastating loss, the Cooks want to honor Lucian’s life and create a lasting legacy of awareness and prevention. They are organizing a celebration of life on what would have been his second birthday, August 31, 2025. This event will be a tribute to Lucian’s playful spirit and will be open to the public. It will not only be a space for family and friends to grieve and remember, but also a community gathering focused on preventing similar tragedies. The event will feature activities for children, a children’s band, and fun attractions like a dunk tank, ball pit, and petting zoo to celebrate the joy Lucian brought into the world.
“Most importantly, the celebration will include CPR training and a giveaway of dechoker devices, turning their grief into action by providing vital education to help prevent future choking incidents.”
The funds raised through the fundraiser will directly support this special event and help the Cook family cover the costs of Lucian’s funeral, a land plot, and a headstone.
Services for Lucian and a location for his celebration of life have not yet been released.
