Brockton man with long criminal history convicted of raping pre-teen relative and her best friend in Fall River
A 60-year-old man was convicted after a jury trial in Fall River Superior Court of raping his pre-teen relative and her best friend in Fall River, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.
Osvaldo Otero of Brockton was convicted of three counts of Rape of a Child-Aggravated by Age Difference after a five-day jury trial. He was sentenced by Judge Renee Dupuis to serve 10 to 15 years in state prison in addition to a 25-to-30-year prison term he is already serving as a result of similar convictions in Plymouth County in 2016.
In the Bristol County case, the crimes happened from 2010 to 2014 in Fall River. The case involved him sexually assaulting his young relative and her 12-year-old best friend. On one occasion he drove them both to a location in Fall River in his van. There, he vaginally raped his relative and anally raped her friend. He ejaculated on the seat and sperm recovered matched the defendant’s DNA profile. The victims, now in their early 20s, were pleased with the conviction and consecutive prison sentence.
The defendant has a 40-year criminal history with convictions for robbery, drug crimes, assault and batteries and other violent crimes.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney MaryClare Flynn.
“The defendant engaged in vile and extremely offensive conduct that involved multiple victims including his own relative. I commend the victims for their perseverance in testifying, which I’m sure was very difficult for them,” District Attorney Quinn said. “The consecutive sentence imposed by the court is clearly appropriate because this defendant needs to be kept off the street to protect young victims from further abuse.”
