Brockton man involved in officer-involved shooting that injured 2 held without bail
A Brockton man charged with multiple firearm-related offenses stemming from an officer-involved shooting was held without bail today in Brockton District Court following his arraignment and a dangerousness hearing, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz announced.
44-year-old Jailson Andrade faces two counts of assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, and single counts of carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, receiving an untraceable firearm, firearm discharge within 500 feet of a building, possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, failure to stop/yield, speeding, and a marked lanes violation. He is scheduled to appear in court again on May 1st.
In the early morning hours on Sunday, Brockton police spotted a white Lexus with a license plate matching a recent department safety bulletin. When officers approached, the driver—identified as Andrade—attempted to flee, leading to a motor vehicle pursuit that ended when his vehicle spun out near the intersection of Spring and Moraine Streets. Andrade exited the Lexus and immediately began firing at the officers, who returned fire. Andrade was struck by gunfire, while neither officer sustained serious injuries. A 71-year-old man who was not involved in the confrontation was grazed by a round and treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.
Andrade was arrested immediately after the shooting.
A 9-millimeter handgun with an obliterated serial number was recovered at the scene.
Brockton Police are handling the criminal investigation against Andrade, while the Plymouth County State Police Detective Unit is investigating the full incident, including the officer-involved shooting.
