A Massachusetts boy who died unexpectedly this week is being remembered by those who knew him. Some of which are determined to make sure he is never forgotten.

Brockton 6th grader George-Levi Njuguna was playing basketball at the Dana Barros Basketball Club on Washington Street in Stoughton on Tuesday evening when he collapsed shortly after practice.

According to Boston 25 News, paramedics arrived minutes later. A defibrillator was used in an attempt to resuscitate, but it was unsuccessful.

Njuguna was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton. While lifesaving measures continued, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. It is still unclear what led to his death, which could take weeks to months.

The club closed on Wednesday due to the loss of Njuguna who was described as a beloved member. Boston 25 News stated that the DBBC will frame and permanently display George-Levi Njuguna’s #21 jersey on a wall to make sure he will always be remembered.

Angelo School in Brockton, where Njuguna previously attended, issued a statement on Friday.

“Sometimes life just isn’t fair. We lost a great one early this week when former Angelo Gator George-Levi Njuguna died from a medical emergency. Our Angelo School pledge says, “As Angelo School Gators we are Respectful, Responsible, and Hardworking……..Gators Got Grit And We Don’t Quit”, and George was the epitome of what it meant to be a Gator. He was just a wonderful human being who cared about everyone and wanted to make this world a better place. George impacted many lives in his 11 years and will always be remembered for the special person he was. George had a big, beautiful smile, was kind to everyone, was a great athlete, and loved his family and God. You will forever be a Gator, George!”

Jack Kelly who works at Brockton Public Schools, shared his thoughts on George via social media.

“Saying that George was a great kid is an understatement. Anyone who was fortunate enough to be around him knows he was well on his way to doing great things in life and changing our world for the better. It was great getting to know him these past few years and I was so excited to see him continue to excel at North Middle School as we both started there this September. He was always looking for a way to help out others…”

A GoFundMe fundraiser created for George’s funeral expenses has surpassed its $10,000 goal.

Services for Njuguna are expected to be held next week.
