Bristol County nostalgic drive-in restaurant announces they will close at the end of their lease
A Bristol County spot where you can catch a movie while eating at a restaurant has announced they will be no more next year.
The Star Drive-In stated on social media that they plan on closing when their current lease is up.
The Star Drive-In is a beloved, family-owned drive-in restaurant located at 205 Myricks Street in East Taunton.
Established over 50 years ago, it has become a local staple for casual dining, emphasizing quick service, affordable prices, and a fun atmosphere for families.
The spot is particularly known for its classic American fare, including hot dogs, burgers, fries, seafood like fried clams and scallops, ice cream treats, and seasonal specials.
The business issued the following statement on social media.
“It is with a very heavy heart that I need to address the rumors that are out there.
“I thought I could wait for this announcement for several more months, but I am getting messages, loyal customers are asking, and it’s even been mentioned at a Zoning Board meeting, and I just went to the local gas station and I was told that they heard The Star Drive-In is closing.
“First and foremost- I have a Lease with South Coast Development until March of 2026. The same entity that purchased the property across the street and built the Storage Facility, also purchased The Star Drive-In property a few years ago when I had just signed another 5-year lease for The Star Drive-In with St.Ives.
“I will not get into the specifics of those issues, but many, within the city government and various departments know what has transpired over the last 4 years, they know what is going on and they have not offered any help or assistance even after my repeated pleas for help.
“Due to those issues, I have had to make the very difficult decision to close at the end of the terms of my lease-March 2026.
“Please know that I will do everything within my power to continue to provide the community with the service, charity, fresh food and free to the community events that I have over the past 9 years.
“I’m very proud of everything I’ve been able to accomplish and give back over the last 10 years.
“I am closing on my terms. I will do my best to find my next best thing.
“We had our best summer season this year! So, thank you.
“Hope To See You Soon at The Star!”
