Bristol County mother and son diagnosed with cancer less than 2 months apart
A Bristol County family has recently been tested twice, but has received an outpouring of community support.
On October 27th, Raynham’s Patra Winders received the devastating words no one wants to hear – “the report came back positive”. After a few weeks of appointments and testing, a Breast Cancer diagnosis was confirmed.
According to loved ones, Patra had her first treatment on December 11th and is fighting through difficult circumstances.
While she is fighting her battle, on December 18th, Patra and her husband Jay’s son, JD, had been having some pain in his hip and after a few days of it not subsiding, and a persistent fever, they took him to the doctor. This led to him being transferred to Boston Children’s Hospital.
After many tests and scans, they received devastating news again….. cancer. On December 23rd, JD was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma.
Now, both Patra and JD have a long road ahead of them, however, they are receiving encouragement and assistance from the community, some of whom are complete strangers.
A GoFundMe fundraiser has raised over $48,000 as of this writing.
In addition to the financial support, prayers and well wishes have been sent from across southern New England and beyond.
We wish the Winder family health and happiness as they face both diagnoses head on.
