Bristol County man found not guilty in Fall River court for the murder of Alvaro Andrade, guilty on second charge
A Bristol County man was found not guilty of murder in Fall River Superior Court Tuesday, but guilty on a second charge.
According to court records, Dustin Humanes of East Taunton was found not guilty in connection to the July 21, 2023, homicide of 33-year-old Alvaro Andrade. He was found guilty of Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm and was sentenced to not less than 3 years to not more than 5 years in prison with credit of 704 days served.
According to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, at approximately 7:50 a.m., Taunton Police received a 911 call regarding shots fired in the area of 188 Winthrop Street (Route 44). When first responders arrived on scene, they located the victim sitting in the driver’s seat of a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee parked in the driveway of the above address. The victim had sustained gunshots wounds and was rushed to Morton Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 9:03 am. The victim was identified as 33-year-old Alvaro J. Andrade of Taunton.
According to the Taunton Gazette, court documents showed that a third man witnessed the fatal shooting and gave his account. The witness said they went to Andrade’s home at 188 Winthrop Street and sat in Andrade’s Jeep while parked in the driveway, according to State Police. Dustin became upset and accused Andrade of being responsible for Dustin getting shot previously. The witness said Humanes shot Andrade, “a bunch of times” inside his Jeep. Humanes told police that “he saw the gun in Andrade’s waist pointing toward him, grabbed the gun out of fear, and shot Andrade in self-defense.”
Humanes was arrested in Fall River after a Fall River Police officer discovered he had checked in to Saint Anne’s Hospital under a false name.
