Bristol County District Attorney announces man suffers fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound in police station parking lot
Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn, III has announced a fatality from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound that took place in the parking lot of the Mansfield Police Department Monday evening.
At just after 7:00 p.m., Mansfield Police received a 911 call alerting them that a male with a possible firearm would be located in a parking lot. A ping of the phone that placed the 911 call, traced the phone to the parking lot of the Mansfield Police Department. Officers were able to locate the motor vehicle in the lot of the police department and observed a male with a firearm inside of the vehicle. The male was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Mansfield Officers then took up a position to secure the perimeter and requested assistance from a SWAT team. Approximately one hour later, a drone was utilized to determine that the single occupant of the motor vehicle was no longer moving. T
he SWAT Team entered the vehicle and located 31-year-old Manuel Casillas of Mansfield deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police recovered a firearm from the hands of the decedent.
The investigation into this matter is ongoing by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office along with the Mansfield Police Department .
