Bristol County business temporarily closed after vehicle strikes support column

ATTLEBORO, MA. — A local business was forced to temporarily close Monday after a vehicle struck a structural support column on the building’s entrance canopy.

According to AFD, at just before 11:30 a.m., the Attleboro Fire Department responded to 1095 Washington St., a physical therapy office, for a reported vehicle into a building.

When firefighters arrived, they found a vehicle had struck a structural support column supporting the building’s entrance canopy. The impact displaced the column, leaving the canopy unstable.

Staff and customers were inside the business at the time of the crash and were directed to exit through emergency exits because the front entrance was no longer safe to use.

The driver, a 54-year-old woman, was able to get out of the vehicle on her own. She was evaluated by Attleboro Fire Department paramedics at the scene but declined transport to the hospital.

The Attleboro Building Department responded to evaluate the damage and issued a temporary no occupancy order until the damaged entrance canopy can be secured and repaired.

There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters.

The Attleboro Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.

Crews remained on scene until approximately 12:19 p.m.
