Brazilian wanted for crimes against a child by Bristol County and Rhode Island authorities captured in Brazil
Brasília, The Civil Police of Minas Gerais (Delegacia Especializada de Proteção a Criança e ao Adolescente) arrested a 56-year-old Brazilian national December 27 with investigative assistance from Homeland Security Investigations Special Agents assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Brasilia, Brazil.
The suspect was previously investigated by the Attleboro and North Attleboro, Massachusetts and East Providence, Rhode Island Police Departments, in addition to the Bristol County (Massachusetts) District Attorney’s Office, for the alleged rape of a vulnerable person (minor) victim spanning a period of four years, beginning when the victim was ten years old.
“One of the U.S. Government’s top law enforcement priorities is to protect the public from crimes of victimization, especially children and members of vulnerable groups,” HSI Attaché Troy Clausen said. “We applaud the actions of the Federal Police of Brazil and Civil Police of Minas Gerais in arresting a man suspected of such heinous crimes.”
Arrest warrants were issued by authorities in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island shortly after a criminal investigation was conducted into the allegations. However, the Brazilian national had already fled the United States for Brazil by the time of issuance.
Fall River Reporter asked for the name of the suspect, but it was not released.
