BOSTON, May 24, 2023 – A brawl among employees at a Massachusetts market led to one of them being stabbed and another being charged in Dorchester BMC today with the assault, District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.

Trevor Charlton, 47, of Hyde Park was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (knife) and ordered held on $10,000 bail by Judge Lisa Ann Grant. Grant also ordered Charlton to stay away from the victim and the store. Charlton will return to court June 14 for a pre-trial hearing.

Assistant District Attorney Brandon DeAvilla said that on Tuesday at about 3:30 p.m. Boston police responded to a call for a stabbing at the Star Market on River Street in Mattapan and found the victim suffering from a stab wound to the abdomen. The victim told police that he got into an argument with Charlton that turned physical. The victim said he was then jumped by four or five other people, and didn’t initially realize he had been stabbed.

Charlton admitted to police that he tackled the victim, got on top of him and pressed his thumbs into the victim’s eyes before co-workers broke up the fight. The store’s video footage shows Charlton grab a large knife and walk toward the victim before being stopped by another co-worker. The footage shows Charlton drop the knife, wait about a minute, then pick up a different object and rush toward the victim again.

The victim, who was transported to Carney Hospital after the incident, told police the argument began when co-workers accused him of not doing his work.

“Fighting over something like this, much less stabbing someone over something like this, is certainly dangerous and potentially deadly. In addition to that, it’s an absolutely abhorrent way for someone to behave in the workplace or any other part of society,” Hayden said.
