Bourne, Wareham, and Massachusetts personnel respond to water rescue of 31-year-old woman

Several agencies responded Wednesday to rescue a Massachusetts woman struggling in Cape Cod waters.

According to police, at just before 12:45 p.m., Officers from the Bourne Police Department responded to the Cape Cod Canal for a report of a female in the water.

Upon arrival, Officers confirmed that there was a female in the water who was not able to make it to shore on her own. Rescue attempts were difficult due to the female’s distance from shore and the tide.

With assistance from multiple agencies, the 31-year-old female from Wareham was rescued from the water and transported to an area hospital.

There were also unconfirmed reports of a second person in the water. An investigation was conducted by the agencies involved, and it was determined that there were no other individuals in the water.

The matter was determined to not be related to a criminal incident and was not an accident, however, police did not release how the woman ended up in the water.

Medflight was requested but was not operating due to the weather.
