Body recovered off of Goat Island in Newport has been identified
A body was discovered off of Goat Island in Newport Thursday afternoon.
UPDATE: Today Newport Police released the identity of the deceased person found in the waters off the Goat Island Marina, Newport on May 17 at approximately 12:06 p.m. The body found was Andrew Kinzler, 76, of Newport, Rhode Island. No further information is available at this time.
According to the Newport Police Department, on Thursday May 17th at approximately 12:06 p.m., Newport Police were dispatched to the Goat Island Marina located on Defenders Row on Goat Island for a report of an unconscious person in the waters just off the dock area.
Newport Fire Department arrived on scene also and the male person was subsequently pulled from the waters. He was determined to be deceased at this time.
Police have initially determined no foul play at this time however; this matter has been turned over to the Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s Office as is protocol with all such reported deaths.
The name of the deceased will not be released until next of kin is properly notified.
