Bill would ban Massachusetts employers from firing over marijuana
Legislation is about to be introduced that would ban employers from firing employees who use marijuana.
According to an article in the Boston Globe, Massachusetts State Senator Jason Lewis, of 5th Middlesex, will propose next month legislation that would treat marijuana much like alcohol. You won’t be allowed to come to work under the influence, but you will not be punished for partaking in the use of marijuana on your off time.
An exception concerning use would allow companies that contract with the federal government to continue drug-testing and firing workers if business would be severely impacted if they did not do so. Marijuana is still illegal under federal law.
This legislation is in response to the legalizing of recreational marijuana in the state and dispensaries opening up across the Commonwealth.
