Bicycle ride leads to death of rider in Bridgewater
BRIDGEWATER — Chief Christopher D. Delmonte reports that the Bridgewater Police Department is investigating after a man died Wednesday following an apparent bicycle fall.
On Wednesday, Dec. 16 at approximately 9 a.m., the Bridgewater Police Department received several 911 calls about a man who was down in the road on Cottage Street.
Witnesses reported that the man, later identified as Brian McCampbell, 56, of Bridgewater, was operating a bicycle in the area. As McCampbell was riding on Cottage Street, he reportedly collided with the curb and fell off the bicycle and into the roadway. Several people in the area came to his aid until Officer Matt MacFadzen, Detective Jake Poulin and Bridgewater Fire Paramedics arrived on the scene.
McCampbell was evaluated by paramedics and transported by ambulance to a Brockton hospital where he later died of his injuries.
The incident is currently under investigation by Detective Poulin with the assistance of detectives from the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office. At this time no foul play is suspected.
